Manipur CM N Biren Singh Reflects on Journalism Roots, Calls for Unity and Peace at Golden Jubilee Celebration
Northeast Desk, 16th September: In an emotional address during the golden jubilee celebration of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union, Chief Minister N Biren Singh revisited his past as a journalist and expressed his heartfelt sentiments about the challenges faced by the press in the state.
“Today is a deeply emotional day for me. Just yesterday, I stood among you as a fellow journalist, and today I join in celebrating this significant milestone,” Singh shared, acknowledging the reunion with colleagues, mentors, and the families of the union’s founding members.
The Chief Minister commended the perseverance of journalists who continue to work under difficult circumstances in Manipur, offering his blessings. “To all journalists in Manipur, who are diligently performing their duties despite the hardships, may God bless them and may peace return to Manipur,” he said, expressing hope for the state’s future.
Singh also highlighted the cultural richness of Manipur, noting its 34 recognized tribes and calling for unity across communities. “Manipur is home to 34 recognized tribes, including every community that has resided here since time immemorial. My message to them is clear: be proud citizens of India and proud Manipuris,” he emphasized, urging the people to come together beyond caste and religion to foster harmony in the region.
The event marked a poignant moment for the Chief Minister, as he reflected on his journey from journalism to politics, while offering words of encouragement to those continuing to report in challenging times.
