Assam Police Crack ADRE Exam Paper Leak Case, Photographer Detained
Guwahati, 17th September: The Assam Police have made a breakthrough in the ADRE exam paper leak case, tracing the source of the leaked question paper to Upendra National Academy in Simen Chapori, Dhemaji district. Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh confirmed that the Dhemaji Police have cracked the case.
According to the investigation, Mangal Singh Basumutary, a photographer hired by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA), took pictures of the question paper after the test ended at 1:30 PM. Basumutary has been detained and has confessed to photographing the paper. His mobile phone has been seized for further investigation.
The police are now identifying others who received the leaked images from Basumutary. Dhemaji Superintendent of Police Hitesh Ch. Roy earlier confirmed that the investigation was underway but declined to provide further details until it is completed.
The incident has sparked sharp criticism from Assam Congress President Bhupen Borah, who called the leak a “major failure” of the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government. Borah accused the administration of rampant corruption and highlighted systemic issues under Sarma’s leadership.
Efforts to contact Education Minister Ranoj Pegu for comment have gone unanswered. The leak has raised concerns about the integrity of the examination process and the government’s ability to conduct fair and secure exams.
The swift action by the Assam Police has brought relief, but the incident has raised questions about the government’s handling of sensitive examination processes.
