Meghalaya Football Association Honours Ri-iohlang Dhar for FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Selection
Northeast Desk, 19th September: The Meghalaya Football Association (MFA) celebrated a proud moment on September 18, honouring Ri-iohlang Dhar for her selection as an Assistant Referee for the upcoming FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. The tournament is set to begin next month in the Dominican Republic.
During an executive committee meeting at the MFA office in JN Stadium, Polo, MFA President Hamletson Dohling and General Secretary Sunesh Syiem presented Dhar with a cheque, recognizing her remarkable achievement. Dohling praised Dhar as a role model for the youth of Meghalaya, while Dhar, the second Indian ever to officiate at a FIFA World Cup, expressed her gratitude to the MFA for their unwavering support throughout her career.
The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will be held from October 16 to November 3.
In the same meeting, Syiem announced that the fourth edition of the Meghalaya State League will commence on October 26. The league will feature the top clubs from affiliated district units, divided into six groups of four teams each. Matches will be played across six venues in the state, and the top teams from each group, along with two best second-placed teams, will qualify for the quarterfinals, introducing an additional round compared to previous seasons. Rangdajied United FC will defend their title.
Furthermore, Syiem revealed that the inaugural Meghalaya Youth League for U-14 and U-16 boys will conclude its group stage on September 28, with the quarterfinals set for the first week of October. The semifinals and finals will take place in Shillong, culminating on October 11. Both leagues are being financially supported by the Meghalaya government.
