Umden and Mawphlang Selected as Best Tourism Villages from Meghalaya in National Competition
Northeast Desk, 19th September: Meghalaya’s Umden and Mawphlang villages have been honored as the Best Tourism Villages in the Craft and Heritage categories in the 2024 Best Tourism Village Competition. The recognition, awarded by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, highlights the villages’ rich cultural heritage and exceptional craftsmanship.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma expressed pride in sharing the news, stating, “It is a moment of pride for Meghalaya as Umden and Mawphlang have been chosen as the Best Tourism Villages in this prestigious competition.” He added that the awards will be presented on World Tourism Day, September 27, 2024, in New Delhi.
The selection of these villages underscores Meghalaya’s growing reputation as a hub of cultural tourism, drawing attention to the region’s unique heritage and artisanal traditions.
