The bodies of a 36-year-old woman, Kong Niancy Riahtam, and a 5-year-old child, both from Mawïong Umjapung, were discovered in the Wah Umshing stream in Mawlai Mawiong on Thursday, September 19. The victims had been missing since the morning of September 18, when they were last seen near the ISBT bus stand.
Authorities recovered the bodies from a forested area by the river around 1:30 pm. While the cause of death remains unclear, the police have sent the bodies to Civil Hospital for postmortem examinations. Forensic analysis will be carried out to determine the circumstances leading to their deaths.
The police are actively investigating the case, and further information is awaited as the inquiry continues.
