Nagaland Wrestling Association Finalizes Team for National Championship in Dehradun
Northeast Desk, 20th September: The Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) has announced the final lineup of 36 wrestlers who will represent the state in the upcoming 12th All India Traditional Wrestling & Pankration Federation (AITWPF) National Traditional Wrestling & Pankration Championship. The championship will take place from October 3 to 6, 2024, in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
The selection process was conducted on Thursday at the Multi-Purpose Hall “B” of IG Stadium, where 61 wrestlers from the NWA’s three affiliated units competed in a rigorous trial. After an intense day of matches, the NWA finalized the team, which includes standout athletes across various weight categories.
In the men’s senior division, Menuosetuo Yiese (80 kg) and Rukukhoto Khusoh are among the prominent names selected for the team. The women’s senior division features top performers such as Venuzo Dawhuo and Vikehenuo Zümvü, who were recognized for their exceptional skill and performance during the trials.
The cadet divisions also showcased promising talent, with Nubasa Rhakho and Khrielhounuo Thevo earning their places in the team. The selected athletes will now prepare for the national competition by attending a coaching camp scheduled to begin on September 25.
NWA officials have expressed their confidence in the team’s capabilities and emphasized the importance of the upcoming camp in fine-tuning their skills ahead of the national event. The association is optimistic about the team’s potential to bring glory to Nagaland in the forthcoming championship.
