Manipur: Tamenglong Hosts Marathon to Promote Cleanliness as Part of Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign

Northeast Desk, 21st September: In a bid to raise awareness about cleanliness and environmental conservation, Tamenglong district in Manipur hosted a marathon as part of the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva campaign. The event, held on Saturday, saw over 200 participants take part in the race, which started at Haipou Jadonang Park and followed a route to the 5th Manipur Rifles Gate before returning to the park.

The marathon was flagged off by Tamenglong’s Deputy Commissioner, Dr. L. Angshim Dangshawa, with the support of other key officials, including Superintendent of Police Lanmiyo Luikham and CEO Kachamthai, who is also the nodal officer of the campaign. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Majachunglu Gangmei and Additional SP Josiah T. Pamei were also present at the event.

Participants included students, community leaders, and members of various civil society organizations, all running to symbolize their dedication to creating a cleaner and healthier environment.

The winners in the men’s category were Kenedy Kamei from Sangrungpang village (1st), Buanthanlung Gonmei from Namkaolong village (2nd), and Ganglan Gangmei from Thiulon village (3rd). In the women’s category, Ganchuiliu Gangmei took first place, with Kajatliu Gangmei (2nd), Lungsingthuanliu Panmei (3rd), and Martha Panmei (4th). All winners were awarded certificates in recognition of their achievements.

As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, the district will host a “Waste to Art” event on September 23, aimed at encouraging innovative recycling of waste materials. The District Administration of Tamenglong has invited the community to take part in this initiative, reinforcing the message that environmental cleanliness is a shared responsibility.
