Assam: Northeast Frontier Railway RPF Recovers Contraband Worth Over Rs. 26.48 Lakhs in September

Guwahati, 21st September: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway has intensified efforts against contraband transportation, recovering goods valued at over Rs. 26.48 lakhs between September 1 and 15, 2024. During this period, nine individuals were apprehended for their involvement in smuggling activities.

In a notable operation on September 2, RPF and Government Railway Police (GRP) conducted checks on the Agartala – Rani Kamalapati Express at Lumding railway station. They arrested four individuals, seizing 19.7 grams of Brown Sugar worth approximately Rs. 3.94 lakhs and 18.10 kgs of Ganja valued at about Rs. 1.81 lakhs. The suspects and contraband were handed over to OC/GRP/Lumding for further legal action.

From January to August 2024, the RPF has recovered contraband worth over Rs. 23.50 crores and apprehended 283 individuals for illegal transportation of smuggled goods, underscoring its commitment to combating drug trafficking in the region.
