Security Forces Intensify Search Operations in Manipur, Recover Large Cache of Arms and Ammunition

Northeast Desk, 22nd September: Security forces in Manipur, including the Manipur Police, Indian Army, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and Assam Rifles (AR), have ramped up search operations across vulnerable areas in the state’s hill and valley districts. These joint exercises have led to the recovery of substantial arms, ammunition, and explosives, signaling the ongoing efforts to mitigate potential insurgent threats in the region.

In a major operation, joint forces uncovered a significant weapons cache, including two 9 mm SMG Carbines, a 12-Bore Single Barrel Gun, a 9 mm pistol, a .32 pistol, and five HE-36 hand grenades. The seizure also included four arming rings, two tube launchers, live ammunition rounds, and tactical equipment such as a BP iron plate, a BP jacket, and a Baofeng walkie-talkie. Among the recovered items were a *tear smoke grenade and stun shells, further boosting security forces’ efforts to neutralize threats.

Operations extended to Churachandpur District, where security personnel made additional recoveries in Moavom and Moljol villages. From Moavom, forces seized two country-made rockets, a country-made mortar, and multiple explosive devices, including mortar bombs and pistols with live rounds. In Moljol village, four improvised heavy mortars, three 12-bore RDS, and other explosive devices were discovered.

In another operation in the Khongnangpokpi hill range of Imphal West District, the Manipur Police seized two MP5-A3 machine pistols, an INSAS Excalibur rifle, and 37 rounds of live ammunition, further emphasizing the ongoing insurgent-related threats in the area.

These intensified operations underscore the importance of continuous vigilance and coordinated security efforts to prevent the escalation of violence in the region.
