World Food India 2024 Highlights Meghalaya’s Food Sector Potential

Northeast Desk, 23th September: World Food India 2024 concluded today after four days of showcasing opportunities in the food sector at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The Meghalaya Pavilion, featuring the launch of “Meghalaya Collectives,” attracted significant interest from food processing investors.

Key meetings facilitated collaborations between Meghalaya’s entrepreneurs and major companies, including Zepto, Big Basket, Lulu Group International, PepsiCo, Patanjali Food, Mother Dairy, and National Cooperative Organics Limited (NCOL). Discussions focused on market linkage and food processing, aimed at enhancing the local industry’s potential.

Dignitaries like Chirag Paswan, Minister of Food Processing Industries, and Dr. Ashish Kumar Bhutani, Secretary, Ministry of Cooperation, commended Meghalaya’s initiatives, particularly the “Meghalaya Collectives,” which promote local produce such as Lakadong Turmeric and Khasi Mandarin while fostering sustainable farming and entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurs shared positive experiences, with Reena Nongrum, founder of Mewan Food Processing, crediting her success to NABARD training and encouraging women to leverage Meghalaya’s resources. Dawhoi Dhar, founder of Naki, emphasized networking opportunities with foreign customers and investors.

Namshrang Ruddiee Diengdoh, owner of Nongrep, noted the B2B exhibition attracted interest from countries like Belarus, Poland, and Japan, generating valuable leads for local farmers.

The Meghalaya Pavilion showcased 20 exclusive brands, focusing on local produce and rural entrepreneurship, with a commitment to improving farmers’ income and promoting sustainable agriculture practices.
