Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan to Transform 608 Tribal Villages in Nagaland
Northeast Desk, 24th September: Nagaland’s Chief Secretary, Dr. J. Alam, IAS, announced that 608 tribal-majority villages across all 16 districts of the state will benefit from the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan (PMJUGA), a centrally sponsored scheme aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of tribal communities. The information was shared during a virtual briefing at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat in Kohima.
Dr. Alam emphasized the importance of the scheme, given Nagaland’s predominantly tribal population, and urged all line departments to make the most of the opportunity by submitting well-prepared proposals. He also stressed the need for effective communication through social media platforms and instructed the Directorate of Information & Public Relations (DIPR) to maximize awareness about the Abhiyan.
Secretary of Tribal Affairs, Angelina Tajen, provided an overview of PMJUGA, which will cover 63,000 tribal-majority villages across India. In Nagaland, the scheme will focus on infrastructure development, economic empowerment, education, and livelihood promotion, aiming for saturation coverage of tribal families in these villages over the next five years.
PMJUGA is expected to play a pivotal role in transforming tribal areas by addressing specific needs and promoting sustainable development.
