Gunfire Erupts in Manipur’s Jiribam District: Villagers Evacuated Amid Militant Attack

Northeast Desk, 28th September: Suspected militants opened fire on Mongbung Meitei village in Jiribam district on Saturday, leading to chaos and the evacuation of vulnerable residents, including women and children.

According to local police, armed men positioned on nearby hilltops and in dense forests launched indiscriminate gunfire at the village, prompting a swift response from local volunteers who attempted to protect their community.

In light of the escalating violence, authorities reported that security forces have been deployed to the area to restore order and ensure the safety of residents. “We are actively working to control the situation,” a police officer stated, adding that, as of now, no casualties have been reported.

The situation in Mongbung Meitei village is particularly tense, as the community has faced a series of attacks since ethnic violence erupted in the district back in June. Residents are now seeking refuge in safer locations as fear spreads throughout the area.

Local officials are closely monitoring developments and are prepared to respond as needed to safeguard the affected villagers.
