Assam: Fraudster Nabbed Attempting to Buy Two-Wheeler in Guwahati Showroom

Guwahati, 29th September: A suspected fraudster was apprehended on Saturday while attempting to purchase a two-wheeler at a Yamaha showroom on Zoo Road in Guwahati. The individual, posing as a customer, tried to buy a vehicle worth ₹1.54 lakh by paying only ₹51,000 upfront, raising suspicion among showroom staff.

Showroom authorities reportedly detained two individuals suspected of involvement in a larger fraud scheme. One of the suspects, identified as Inamul Ali, attempted to escape but was apprehended after a brief chase by alert staff. The fraudulent purchase was being arranged by Ali on behalf of another individual named Krishna Baruah.

Police arrived at the scene and have launched an investigation into the case. The dealership owner suspects that the duo may be part of a wider fraud ring targeting vehicle dealers. According to reports, these fraudsters typically make partial payments to purchase vehicles, then resell them to third parties while defaulting on the remaining payments. In many instances, they falsely report the vehicle as stolen after acquisition.

Authorities are currently probing the extent of the fraudulent scheme and are on the lookout for other potential accomplices involved in similar scams across the region.
