Meghalaya Police Arrest 17 Bangladeshi Nationals Amid Heightened Border Security

Northeast Desk, 3rd October: In a significant operation, Meghalaya police apprehended 17 Bangladeshi nationals in the West Garo Hills district, raising alarms about illegal border crossings in the region.

The arrests occurred as the group was reportedly traveling from Hallidayganj to Phulbari when law enforcement authorities intercepted them during routine checks. This action underscores the police’s commitment to curbing cross-border activities and illegal migration.

This incident follows closely on the heels of a similar operation in Assam’s South Salmara Mankachar district, where 12 Bangladeshi nationals were detained in Hatsingimari just two days prior. The continued vigilance by state forces in both Meghalaya and Assam highlights ongoing efforts to address illegal migration along the India-Bangladesh border.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to enhancing border security measures to ensure territorial integrity and monitor breaches effectively. The recent arrests reflect the government’s resolve to tackle the challenges posed by illegal immigration and maintain law and order in border regions.
