Arunachal: Namdapha and Kamlang Reserves Declared Eco-Sensitive Zones
Northeast Desk, 5th October: The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has officially declared the Namdapha National Park & Tiger Reserve and Kamlang Wildlife Sanctuary & Tiger Reserve in Arunachal Pradesh as *Eco-Sensitive Zones (ESZ). Namdapha, located in the **Changlang district, and Kamlang, in the *Lohit district, have been recognised for their significant biodiversity and environmental value.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu, expressing his delight on social media platform X, shared, “Delighted to share that @moefcc has declared Namdapha National Park & Tiger Reserve (Changlang district) and Kamlang Wildlife Sanctuary & Tiger Reserve (Lohit district) as Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ).”
CM Khandu also highlighted that in *February 2024, the *Pakke Tiger Reserve was similarly designated an ESZ, marking continued efforts in safeguarding Arunachal Pradesh’s rich natural heritage. “This further paves the way for focussed conservation of endangered wildlife and rare flora found in these reserves,” Khandu said, emphasizing the importance of environmental sustainability and maintaining a balanced ecosystem.
Under the *National Environment Policy (2006), *Eco-Sensitive Zones are areas that contain significant environmental resources requiring special attention for conservation. The ESZ status aims to protect the biological integrity of ecosystems that are vulnerable due to human activities and climatic pressures, ensuring long-term conservation and sustainability.
The declaration is expected to boost conservation efforts for endangered species and unique biodiversity in these reserves, contributing to the state’s ecological and environmental priorities.
