Assam: SSB Intercepts Vehicle Transporting Illegal Timber in Chirang
Guwahati, 5th October – In a significant operation, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) successfully intercepted a vehicle transporting illegal wooden logs in *Balla Moguri, Chirang. The operation took place near *Dangsiapara while the vehicle, registered as *AS 15 AC 0313, was en route to *Bijni.
Under the command of Party Commander B.D. Chakraborty from the F Company, the SSB acted swiftly on a tip-off, leading to the apprehension of the vehicle laden with Gomari tree logs. Notably, the vehicle was found to be lacking any documentation to prove the legality of the timber being transported.
Following the seizure of the illegal logs, the SSB handed over the vehicle and the logs to the Bijni Forest Department for further investigation. During the operation, two individuals were detained: *Shanuwar Husein, a 22-year-old driver from **Majrabari village, and *Meher Uddin, a 38-year-old handyman. Both were subsequently turned over to the Forest Department for necessary legal action.
This operation underscores the SSB’s commitment to combating illegal timber trafficking and protecting the region’s natural resources. The interception also highlights the importance of community vigilance in reporting suspicious activities to authorities.
