Arunachal Pradesh Dominates Asmita Taekwondo League, Emerges Overall Champions

Northeast Desk, 7th October: The Arunachal Pradesh Taekwondo team claimed the overall championship title in the third phase of the Second Asmita Taekwondo League 2024-25, part of the Khelo India Women’s Taekwondo League, which concluded on October 6 at the Khelo India Multipurpose Stadium.

The hosts showcased a brilliant performance, amassing 96 points across both the Poomsae and Kyorugi categories. Their medal tally included an impressive 6 gold, 6 silver, and 8 bronze medals, securing their spot at the top.

Close behind, Team Assam claimed the runners-up position with 81 points, winning 4 gold, 4 silver, and 11 bronze medals. Team Manipur finished third, earning 65 points with 5 gold, 3 silver, and 5 bronze medals, in what was a fiercely contested championship.

The four-day event, held from October 3-6, saw participation from 15 teams, including three paramilitary forces and 12 states, namely Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, and West Bengal.

At the closing ceremony, Capital DC Talo Potom commended the athletes for their exceptional talent and teamwork, stating, “It is heartening to see such tremendous talent and sportsmanship among these women athletes. They have set an example with their skill, discipline, and dedication. This League reflects the immense potential of our youth, particularly women, in the sports arena.”

Bengia Ajum, Vice President of the Arunachal Press Club, stressed the importance of grassroots sports development, noting, “This event is a testament to the power of sports in empowering women and building community spirit. The outstanding performances we’ve witnessed underscore the need for more platforms to nurture such talent.”

Director of Sports, Tadar Apa, also lauded the athletes, remarking on the high level of competition and praising their determination and resilience. “We will continue to support initiatives that promote and develop sports in the region,” he added.

The event was attended by several notable figures, including Arunachal Taekwondo Association General Secretary Likha Robin, and other personalities like Kipa Ajay, Toko Teki, Nily Likha Tabo, and L Sokun Singh.
