Assam Police Seizes Over Rs 8 Crore in Illicit Drugs in Major Anti-Drug Operations

Guwahati, October 8 Assam Police has launched a vigorous crackdown on drug trafficking, successfully executing a series of anti-drug operations that have resulted in the recovery of illicit substances valued at over Rs 8 crore. This significant enforcement action aligns with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s unwavering commitment to combat drug-related crimes across the state.

In a notable operation, the Biswanath Police intercepted a vehicle at a Naka Point on National Highway 15, leading to the seizure of 314 kilograms of Ganja worth approximately Rs 1.57 crore. This operation highlights the police’s proactive approach and dedication to dismantling drug trafficking networks in the region.

Simultaneously, the Cachar Police executed two special raids in Silchar and Ramnagar, recovering 572 grams of heroin and 10,000 YABA tablets, with a combined estimated value of around Rs 7 crore. Authorities apprehended one suspect during these operations, further demonstrating their relentless efforts to target and dismantle the drug networks operating within Assam.

Chief Minister Sarma has reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards drug-related offenses, asserting that stringent measures will continue to be enforced to ensure the safety and well-being of the citizens. “Our commitment to eradicating drug abuse and trafficking is resolute, and we will continue to take all necessary steps to protect our communities,” he stated.

The successful execution of these operations serves as a strong message against drug-related crimes in Assam and reflects the government’s determination to foster a safer environment for its citizens.
