Arunachal: TRIHMS Achieves Medical Milestone with Successful Treatment of Retinopathy in Newborn

Arunachal Pradesh: The Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) in Arunachal Pradesh has successfully treated a one-month-old baby girl diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) Plus Disease, a first for the state. The breakthrough procedure involved administering intravitreal anti-VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) treatment under topical anesthesia, setting a new standard for neonatal care in the region.

The medical team was led by Dr. Taw Anne Dipu, Assistant Professor and the only Retina Specialist in Arunachal Pradesh, along with Dr. Pepu Jini and Dr. Nandan from the Department of Pediatrics. Their expertise and dedication were pivotal in this achievement, highlighting the institute’s commitment to providing advanced medical services in the state.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu praised the team on X, expressing his admiration for their achievement. “Heartiest congratulations to the dedicated team at TRIHMS for achieving yet another medical milestone! This groundbreaking procedure highlights their commitment to delivering advanced healthcare to our people. Kudos to the team for their tireless efforts and service!” Khandu wrote.

This success represents a major step forward in neonatal care in Arunachal Pradesh and showcases the growing medical capabilities within the state.
