Security Forces Seize Large Cache of Illegal Arms in Manipur’s Hill and Valley Districts

Manipur: In a concerted effort to bolster security in the volatile fringe areas of Manipur, security forces conducted extensive search operations across the state’s hill and valley districts on October 9.

These operations led to the discovery of a significant cache of illegal arms and ammunition, reflecting ongoing concerns about arms proliferation in the region.

In the Langol Hill area of Luwangshangbam, Imphal East District, security personnel recovered two .32 pistols with magazines, one 9mm pistol, two hand grenades, and two improvised mortars.

The haul also included 32 live rounds of ammunition, 80 empty cartridge cases, and various types of grenades and gas shells.

Meanwhile, a separate raid at Champhai Hill uncovered an M-16 rifle without a magazine, two SLR rifles, and other firearms, including country-made weapons.

Authorities also seized two carbines with five magazines and eight country-made 9mm pistols, further underscoring the extent of illegal arms in the area.

The operations highlight the ongoing challenges posed by the presence of illicit weaponry in Manipur, as security forces continue their efforts to restore peace and ensure safety in vulnerable regions.
