Meghalaya: Northeast Youth Complete 371-Kilometre Walkathon from Itanagar to Shillong, Promoting Health and Wellness

Meghalaya: A group of young individuals from India’s Northeast completed an arduous 371-kilometre walkathon, trekking through rugged terrain from Itanagar to Shillong over nine days. The team, led by Welkin Stone Shadap, a botany student at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), maintained an impressive pace of 50 kilometres per day, starting their journey on September 30 and arriving at their destination on October 8.

The walkathon was aimed at encouraging physical activity and promoting a healthy lifestyle among the region’s youth. While not directly framed as an anti-drug campaign, the trek highlighted how channeling energy into positive, goal-oriented challenges can inspire others.

The ambitious expedition received support from various organizations, including the Government of Meghalaya, the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, educational institutions, and local businesses. Upon reaching Shillong, Shadap expressed hope that their efforts would inspire more youth to engage in productive activities, contributing to personal well-being and societal progress.
