Assam CM Highlights Ambitious Restoration of Historic Rudreswar Devalaya

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on October 11 announced the restoration of the historic Rudreswar Devalaya, built in 1749 in honor of Lord Mahadev, as part of a major initiative to transform the temple into a significant heritage tourism center.

The project, spearheaded by the Directorate of Archaeology, underscores the state government’s dedication to preserving Assam’s rich cultural legacy.

The temple, originally constructed by Ahom king Pramatta Singha in memory of his father, Rudra Singha, represents a key piece of Assam’s architectural and historical heritage.

The restoration has been allocated ₹2.33 crore and includes the reconstruction of boundary walls, gates, improved public amenities, and enhanced signage.

The restoration plan involves modern techniques like 3D laser scanning for accurate documentation, alongside traditional methods for conserving ancient brick structures.

Additionally, the project will restore deteriorating wooden elements, clean ancient surfaces, and reconstruct pathways, ensuring both preservation and improved visitor access.
