Rajnath Singh Virtually Inaugurates 75 Key Infrastructure Projects Amid Sikkim Visit Delays
Sikkim: Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurated 75 critical infrastructure projects from Sukna Military Base in Siliguri on October 12, after being unable to reach Sikkim’s Sherathang due to weather disruptions.
Singh has been camped at the base since his arrival at Bagdogra airport, unable to take off for a second day.
The 75 projects, developed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), include 51 bridges, 22 roads, and 2 additional initiatives spread across states and Union Territories, aimed at boosting national security and border connectivity.
Notable projects include the 125-meter Nengpuilui Bridge in Mizoram, improving access to remote regions, and the Sela Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh, which will ensure year-round access to the strategically important Tawang region.
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba, and other dignitaries gathered at Sherathang for the planned inauguration.
Several governors and leaders from other states, including Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, attended the ceremony virtually.
Rajnath Singh praised the BRO’s achievements, emphasizing their vital role in completing 125 infrastructure projects this year, aligning with India’s focus on border security and socio-economic development. He highlighted their hard work, quoting the BRO’s ethos, “Shrameṇ Sarvam Sādhyam” (everything is achievable through hard work).
