Meghalaya Police Seize Large Quantity of Illicit Liquor in Shillong Raid Amid Festive Crackdown
Shillong: In a major raid aimed at curbing illegal liquor sales, the Meghalaya Police seized 115 litres of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and 162 litres of beer in Shillong’s Polo area under the Sadar police station. The operation was part of ongoing efforts to maintain order during the festive season.
*East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger, confirmed that an investigation is underway following the seizure, with authorities committed to preventing illicit activities within the city limits. The raid comes as part of a broader initiative to ensure public safety during **Durga Puja, with *Friday and Saturday declared as dry days by the East Khasi Hills district administration.
In a related development, on *October 9, the *East Khasi Hills police arrested two suspected drug peddlers. Acting on intelligence, the Anti-Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) intercepted a Tata Sumo vehicle traveling from Guwahati to Shillong. The suspects, Abdul Mukit (43) from Kamramganj and Sawrupananda Mohanta (38) from Cachar, Assam, were apprehended at Mawlai, marking another success in the police’s ongoing anti-crime operations.
The police have ramped up efforts across the region, aiming to prevent both illicit liquor distribution and drug-related offenses during the festival period.
