Assam STF Seizes Over Half a Kilogram of Heroin in Major Drug Bust

In a significant operation on October 14, the Assam Special Task Force (STF) intercepted a truck in Jorabat, opposite the North East Cancer Hospital, recovering more than half a kilogram of heroin. The raid led to the arrest of Rananjay Mandal, a 46-year-old individual with known connections to drug trafficking.

Under the leadership of Inspector Kapil Pathak, the early morning operation resulted in the discovery of 45 soap boxes filled with heroin, totaling 537.2 grams. Mandal, who hails from Bamunkuchi in Nagaon district, was reportedly transporting the narcotics from Nagaland to Guwahati at the time of his apprehension.

This seizure is part of a broader crackdown on drug trafficking in Assam, following a series of recent busts in the region. Notably, on September 30, police in Sivasagar seized narcotics valued at approximately Rs 20 lakh after a car chase on National Highway 37, leading to the arrest of four individuals, including two women.

Authorities are ramping up efforts to dismantle the drug trafficking networks that exploit Assam’s geography for their operations. The successful interception by the Assam STF underscores the ongoing battle against the narcotics trade in the state, as law enforcement continues to take decisive action against drug-related crimes.
