Nagaland: CFSB Chairman Accuses NSCN-K (Nikki Sumi Faction) of Ceasefire Violation After Youths Abducted Over Tax Dispute

Kohima: The Ceasefire Supervisory Board (CFSB) chairman, Amarjeet Singh Bedi, has accused the Nikki Sumi faction of the NSCN-K of violating ceasefire ground rules following the alleged abduction of two Naga youths in Dimapur on October 10.

The youths were reportedly taken in connection with an illegal taxation demand, raising concerns about the group’s adherence to the ceasefire agreement.

On October 14, Bedi held separate closed-door meetings at the Police Complex in Chumoukedima with representatives from the NSCN-K (Nikki Sumi), Dimapur-based civil society organisations, and youth groups to address the situation.

Following discussions with the NSCN-K (Nikki Sumi) leaders, Bedi confirmed that the group was found responsible for breaching ceasefire terms and misusing the ceasefire office. He stated that the group had agreed in writing to adhere to all ceasefire ground rules.

Bedi urged the faction to locate those responsible for the abductions, who may have acted individually, and hand them over to the police for appropriate legal action.

The Nikki Sumi faction of the NSCN-K signed a ceasefire agreement with the Indian government in 2021, which was extended for another year just last month.

The agreement aims to promote peace, mutual understanding, and trust as part of efforts to resolve the longstanding Naga political issue.

Bedi, as the chairman of CFSB, emphasized his responsibility to ensure that all Naga political groups adhering to ceasefire agreements with the Centre follow the established ground rules.

He warned that any group found to be in violation would be held accountable for any unlawful activities.

The Centre currently holds ceasefire agreements with five Naga groups, though the Nikki Sumi faction of the NSCN-K has not yet entered into formal dialogue to resolve the broader Naga political issue.
