Indian Army Establishes Kameng Culture and Heritage Museum in Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar: The Indian Army has established the Kameng Culture and Heritage Museum at Nyukmadung in Arunachal Pradesh’s West Kameng district, under the Vibrant Village Programme (VVP).

Chief Minister Pema Khandu will officially inaugurate the museum on October 23, alongside Union Minister of State for Rural Development Kamlesh Paswan and Lt. Gen. Gambhir Singh, general officer commanding of the Gajraj Corps.

According to a press release by Guwahati-based Defence PRO Lt Col Mahendra Rawat, the museum aims to be a cultural hub promoting peace, security, and nation-building through community integration.

Highlighting Arunachal Pradesh’s deep-rooted connection to Indian civilization, with mentions in the Kalika Purana and Mahabharata, Rawat noted the state’s rich cultural heritage, historical monuments, and archaeological sites.

The Kameng Museum will bring together these diverse elements, blending Arunachal Pradesh’s cultural and religious heritage with its natural beauty.

A joint initiative between the Indian Army and the local community, the museum will showcase the region’s historical, religious, archaeological, and ethnographic aspects.

It has been curated by the National Museum Institute of History of Art, Conservation, and Museology, with the local community contributing ancestral land and 343 artefacts.

The Kameng Museum also features a state-of-the-art movie hall to display the cultural and heritage connections between Arunachal Pradesh and the rest of India, as well as a cafeteria and children’s park for tourists.
