Manipur Police Arrest Three in Connection with SDC Kumbi Office Arson, Weapons Seized in Separate Raid

Imphal: Manipur Police have arrested three individuals in connection with the burning of the SDC (Sub-Divisional Collector) Kumbi office on September 26, 2024. The arrested suspects, identified as Moirangthem Ajaykumar (22), Wahengbam Prabhakar (27), and Khumanthem Jesper (23), have been remanded to police custody for four days. Authorities are continuing efforts to apprehend additional suspects linked to the arson attack.

In a separate development, security forces have ramped up operations in the hill and valley districts, focusing on fringe and vulnerable areas. A raid in Leirongthel Pitra Uyok Ching, Thoubal District, led to the recovery of a significant cache of weapons and equipment, including:

  • 1 AK Rifle (7.62 mm) with a magazine
  • 1 SLR Rifle (7.62 mm) with a magazine
  • 1 SMG Rifle (9 mm) with a magazine
  • 1 Pistol (9 mm) with a magazine
  • 1 12 mm bore single-barrel gun
  • 6 hand grenades and 58 live rounds of ammunition
  • 2 detonators and 2 tube launchers
  • 1 wireless handset (Baofeng) with a charger
  • 1 bulletproof jacket, 2 iron plates, and 5 arming rings

The intensified operations come amid ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in the state. Security forces have also facilitated the movement of essential goods, ensuring the safe passage of 107 vehicles along NH-37 and 81 vehicles along NH-2. Convoys were deployed to sensitive areas, and strict security measures were implemented at vulnerable points.

In addition, 110 Nakas (checkpoints) have been established across the hill and valley districts. No detentions for violations were reported during these operations, according to police sources.
