Congress Nominates Jingjang M. Marak for Gambegre By-Election in Meghalaya

Shillong: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has officially approved the nomination of Jingjang M. Marak as the party’s candidate for the upcoming Gambegre Assembly constituency bye-election in Meghalaya.

The by-poll, set for November 13 in West Garo Hills, has stirred significant political activity among various parties in the state.

The election process will formally commence with the issuance of the notification on October 18. Candidates have until October 25 to file their nominations, with scrutiny scheduled for October 28. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is October 30. Voting will take place on November 13, and the results will be declared on November 23.

In addition to Marak’s nomination, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, leader of the National People’s Party (NPP), recently announced that his wife, Mehtab Chandee, will also be contesting the Gambegre by-election, following what he described as strong public demand.

The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) has also fielded Sadhiarani M. Sangma, the only female member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), in a bid to capture the seat.

With the Model Code of Conduct now in effect across the West Garo Hills district, the stage is set for a hotly contested by-election.

All parties, candidates, and the state government will be required to adhere strictly to the regulations in place, ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process.

In parallel, the Congress has also selected Ravindra Vasantrao Chavan as its candidate for the Nanded Lok Sabha seat in Maharashtra’s upcoming bye-election.
