Sikkim Sees Multiple Unnatural Death Cases Under Investigation on October 16

Gangtok: Sikkim witnessed a series of tragic incidents on October 16, 2024, with multiple unnatural death cases being registered across different districts, prompting active police investigations. In addition, traffic enforcement operations continued in various regions, leading to action against vehicle violations.

In Ranipool, traffic authorities took action under the Central Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, with seven vehicles being challaned for various traffic violations.

A particularly heart-wrenching case unfolded at Sadar Police Station, where a five-month-old infant, Arushi Kumari, was declared brought dead at STNM Hospital. The case was registered under the Sikkim BNSS Act, 2023, and police have begun an investigation into the infant’s death. The child’s body was handed over to her family following a postmortem.

In Singtam, a 45-year-old laborer, Sonaram Murmu, was found dead after reportedly spending a night drinking with colleagues. Authorities have preserved the body for a postmortem to determine the cause of death, with an investigation ongoing.

Rangpo saw a tragic road accident at Namthang Fatak involving a collision between a Royal Enfield bike and a Bolero vehicle, leading to the death of Rifleman Shiva Chettri. Initial findings suggest the bike may have lost control while attempting to overtake a bus, but further inquiries are underway.

In Namchi, a suicide case was reported, involving a 65-year-old cow herder from Nepal, found hanging from a tree. Police have not identified any signs of foul play but are continuing their investigation to rule out other possibilities.

The series of unfortunate events has cast a somber tone across the state, with local authorities urging vigilance and caution as investigations proceed.
