Arunachal Athletes Shine at Senior Asian Pencak Silat Championship

Itanagar: Chief Minister Pema Khandu has lauded the achievements of three athletes from Arunachal Pradesh, who clinched bronze medals at the 8th Senior Asian Pencak Silat Championship 2024 held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Sharing his pride on social media platform X, Khandu said, “Wow! Asian Pencak Silat Championship Bronze medalists Likha Aku, Meta Pao, and Damsop Tungi truly deserve a hero’s welcome.”

The championship concluded on October 16, marking a historic moment for the state, as it was the first time athletes from Arunachal Pradesh represented India at this prestigious event. Likha Aku, Meta Pao, and Damsop Tungi delivered stellar performances, earning bronze medals and bringing recognition to the seven-member Arunachal contingent.

Kipa Takar, General Secretary of the North East Pencak Silat Federation, emphasized the importance of this achievement. Takar advocated for the creation of a dedicated Pencak Silat training center in Itanagar, stating that such a facility would provide essential support for aspiring athletes and foster the growth of the sport in the region.

The athletes’ success has put a spotlight on the talent and potential of Arunachal Pradesh in the martial art of Pencak Silat, encouraging more initiatives to promote sports in the state.
