BSF Meghalaya Thwarts Smuggling Attempts Near India-Bangladesh Border

Shillong: The Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya apprehended two Indian nationals near the international border in East Khasi Hills district, seizing a large consignment of apples intended for smuggling into Bangladesh.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the 4th Battalion of the Meghalaya BSF intercepted two vehicles on the Dawki-Lynkhat road in the Pyrdwah bordering area, which were carrying 40 boxes of apples.

The vehicles, an Alto car and a Maruti van, were stopped for inspection, and the drivers were questioned.

Upon failing to provide a satisfactory explanation or produce valid documents for the consignment, the BSF took action and handed over the apprehended individuals, vehicles, and consignments to Customs Pynursla.

This incident highlights the ongoing efforts by security forces to curb smuggling activities along the India-Bangladesh border.

Earlier in the week, BSF troops in East Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya, successfully foiled another smuggling attempt. The 172 Battalion seized 980 bottles of Phensedyl cough syrup, a substance often trafficked into Bangladesh.

Acting on reports of suspicious activity, the BSF was able to confiscate the contraband, ensuring it did not cross the border.

The BSF in Meghalaya continues to remain vigilant, actively working to combat cross-border smuggling and illegal activities, thereby maintaining the security and integrity of the border region.
