Assam Police Crack Down on Fake Gold Scam, Two Arrested in Gossaigaon
Guwahati: Gossaigaon police in Assam arrested two individuals, Kurujat Ali from Lakshmipur and his associate Asar Uddin Sheikh, for their involvement in a fake gold scam. The two were caught while attempting to sell over 1.5 kilograms of counterfeit gold in Gossaigaon.
Kurujat Ali was arrested while trying to sell the fake gold, and Asar Uddin Sheikh was identified as having a crucial role in transporting the counterfeit material. The investigation revealed that two men from Akola, Maharashtra, Ashish Raju Chaware and Gaurav Girimkar, had traveled to Assam to purchase the gold. They were duped by a man named Firdous from Sapkata, who took ₹2.5 lakh from them before fleeing. Police are now searching for Firdous, who remains at large.
In a separate incident, the Garmur police acted on a complaint filed by District Child Protection Unit officer Sangita Baruah, leading to the arrest of Abinash Saikia from Kathnibari village, Kamalabari. Saikia is being investigated under multiple charges at the Garmur police station, though details of the case have not been fully disclosed as the probe continues.
