Assam: Major Drug Seizure in Kamrup District Leads to Arrest of Two Individuals

AssamA significant drug seizure operation in Assam’s Kamrup district has resulted in the arrest of two individuals and the confiscation of heroin valued at approximately ₹6 crore.

The operation was executed by the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police on Saturday night in the Amingaon area, following crucial intelligence regarding the transportation of narcotics from Manipur.

According to Pranabjyoti Goswami, Chief Public Relations Officer of Assam Police, the heroin was concealed within 49 soap boxes found in an SUV.

The vehicle’s occupant, identified as the intended recipient of the drugs, was apprehended on-site. The seized heroin weighed a substantial 637 grams and had reportedly originated from the Kangpokpi district of Manipur.

In a subsequent operation, law enforcement tracked down and arrested the truck driver responsible for transporting the contraband from Manipur.

This arrest took place at a parking area in Changsari. Both vehicles involved in the drug smuggling operation have been impounded for further investigation.

Authorities have initiated legal proceedings against the suspects, and the investigation is ongoing as officials strive to unravel the intricate drug trafficking network that connects Manipur and Assam.

This successful operation underscores the commitment of Assam Police to combat drug trafficking and enhance public safety in the region.
