PM UDAN Scheme Boosts Assam’s Lilabari Airport, Enhances Regional Connectivity

Lilabari– The Prime Minister’s UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme has significantly improved Assam’s Lilabari Airport, bolstering regional connectivity and promoting economic development, according to airport manager Vijender Yadav.

Speaking to reporters, Yadav highlighted the transformative impact of the initiative, which aims to make air travel affordable and accessible, especially for smaller towns and regions.

“PM UDAN has greatly benefited Lilabari Airport by enhancing regional connectivity and fostering economic growth. The scheme, designed to make air travel more affordable, has directly increased the airport’s operational capacity,” Yadav said.

He emphasized that Lilabari, an underutilized airport, has seen a surge in connectivity, which has subsequently boosted tourism in the region.

Yadav added that the increased air traffic has helped position Lilabari as a vital hub for stimulating local economic activity. “This development has not only transformed the airport but has also improved the quality of life by providing affordable travel options and encouraging tourism growth,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the success of the UDAN scheme on social media. On his X (formerly Twitter) handle, he wrote, “Over the last eight years, UDAN, a vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister @narendramodi, has seen more than 2.8 lakh flights take off, carrying 1.5 crore passengers on 617 routes across 34 States and Union Territories.”

The UDAN scheme, launched by the Government of India, is designed to improve regional connectivity by making air travel affordable for the general public, especially in rural areas, and utilizing underdeveloped airports like Lilabari.
