Arunachal’s Pani Manju Joram Wins Medals at Asian Cup Muaythai Championship
Itanagar: Pani Manju Joram has made history by becoming the first athlete from Arunachal Pradesh to win medals at the Asian Cup Muaythai Championship in Taipei. Joram secured a silver in the traditional Wai-Kru ceremony and a bronze in the 57-kg elite category, marking a significant milestone for her state.
In the Wai-Kru finals, Joram competed against Yi-Ching Chen of Chinese Taipei. Wai-Kru, a ceremonial dance integral to Muaythai, honors trainers and ancestors while displaying the cultural heritage of the sport. Joram’s remarkable performance in the championship showcased her technical skill and deep respect for Muaythai traditions.
The event, featuring fighters from across Asia, including countries like Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Mongolia, and India, underlined the growing international appeal of Muaythai. Joram’s success at this prestigious tournament was celebrated by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, who took to social media to honor her achievements, calling her the “Pride of India.”
Joram’s accomplishment is a breakthrough for Arunachal Pradesh and serves as an inspiration for budding athletes across the northeastern region and the country.
