Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Attends Review Meeting on Highway Projects in New Delhi

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma participated in a pivotal review meeting today, chaired by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, focusing on the advancement of 1,001 kilometers of highway projects in Assam.

This meeting is a significant milestone in the state’s infrastructure development, with a concerted effort to ensure the timely completion of 57 critical National Highway projects.

During the meeting, Sarma emphasized the urgency of expediting key initiatives designed to enhance connectivity and stimulate economic growth in Assam. “Our collective priority remains the timely completion of these vital National Highway projects across various implementing agencies,” he stated.

Among the projects under discussion was the Jorhat-Dibrugarh Highway, for which Sarma urged for an expedited completion. He also highlighted the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor, whose alignment has already received necessary approvals.

Additionally, Sarma provided an update on the ongoing progress of the Gohpur-Numaligarh Tunnel under the Brahmaputra, noting that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is nearing completion.

The Chief Minister further advocated for the 4-laning of the Baihata Chariali-Tezpur highway, a project anticipated to significantly improve regional connectivity. He also called for the re-tendering of the Majuli bridge, which connects Kamalabari and Nimati Ghat, underlining its critical role in enhancing accessibility for residents of Majuli Island.

Accompanying Sarma were Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and several esteemed Members of Parliament from Assam, all united in their commitment to advancing the state’s infrastructural goals. This collaborative effort underscores the government’s dedication to constructing a robust road network, paving the way for Assam’s progress and prosperity.
