Arunachal CM Pema Khandu Inaugurates Kameng Culture and Heritage Museum in West Kameng
Arunachal Pradesh – Chief Minister Pema Khandu inaugurated the Kameng Culture and Heritage Museum in Nyukmadung, West Kameng district, marking a significant step in preserving and showcasing the rich cultural and historical heritage of the region. The museum, developed in collaboration with the Indian Army and local communities, is designed to serve as a vital hub for cultural preservation and education, aligning with the state’s goals for border development.
Speaking at the event, Khandu referenced ancient texts like the Kalika Purana and the Mahabharata, highlighting the profound cultural, historical, and religious importance of the Kameng region. He emphasized the museum’s role in not only preserving the past but also inspiring future generations. “The Kameng Museum stands as a testament to our rich heritage and the efforts to safeguard it for future generations,” Khandu said.
The Indian Army played a pivotal role in establishing the museum, a reflection of their ongoing commitment to the development of border areas under the Sadbhavana projects. Khandu praised their contribution, particularly in initiatives like model villages, border tourism, and infrastructure enhancement, which align with the government’s Vibrant Village Programme.
Union Minister of State for Rural Development Kamlesh Paswan commended the Indian Army’s efforts in fostering civil-military cooperation and its contributions to regional development, noting the museum’s crucial role in preserving Arunachal Pradesh’s cultural legacy.
GOC Gajraj Corps Lt Gen Gambhir Singh reaffirmed the army’s dual focus on security and socio-economic development in the border areas, emphasizing the museum’s importance in promoting peace and community integration.
The museum, curated with the expertise of Prof. Manvi Seth and her team from the Indian Institute of Heritage, features digital artefacts and a captivating film by Moonlight Pictures, capturing the essence of Arunachal Pradesh’s ancient traditions and modern life.
Housing over 340 traditional heirlooms, some dating back to the Neolithic period, the museum is expected to attract scholars, researchers, and tourists from around the world. In addition to its vast collection, the museum offers a modern movie hall, souvenir shop, cafeteria, and a children’s park, making it an attractive destination for both tourists and locals.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Maj Gen Neeraj Shukla of the Blazing Sword Division, Dirang MLA Phurpa Tsering, monks from the Dirang Monastery, school children, and local tourists.
This new cultural institution stands as a beacon of the state’s vision for inclusive and sustainable development, while strengthening Arunachal Pradesh’s position as a cultural and educational hub.
