Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Criticizes Jharkhand Mukti Morcha for Dynastic Politics
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has launched a scathing critique of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), accusing the party of engaging in dynastic politics.
Sarma, who serves as the BJP’s co-in-charge for the upcoming Jharkhand elections, made his comments following the JMM’s announcement of its candidate list, which features familial connections among its nominees, including Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, his wife Kalpana Soren, and his brother Basan Soren.
Sarma emphasized that the JMM’s candidate selection reflects a lack of diversity and an over-reliance on family ties, stating, “The JMM’s candidate list clearly reflects dynastic politics.” He further suggested that the BJP could offer additional candidates, highlighting that some leaders from the saffron party have recently joined the JMM.
The criticism comes as the JMM released its first list of 35 candidates for the upcoming assembly polls, fielding Chief Minister Hemant Soren from the Barhait constituency and Kalpana Soren from Gandey.
Polling for the 81-member Jharkhand assembly is scheduled to take place in two phases on November 13 and November 20, with results to be announced on November 23. Sarma’s remarks underscore the intense political competition leading up to the elections, as parties position themselves for what promises to be a closely watched electoral battle.
