Former BJP Leader Jayanta Bora Joins Congress Ahead of Assam By-Election, Secures Early Party Ticket
Tezpur: In a strategic move ahead of the upcoming by-election, former BJP leader Jayanta Bora officially joined the Congress party during a ceremony held at Rajiv Bhawan, Tezpur, on October 24.
The event was marked by the presence of Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, who played a key role in facilitating Bora’s induction into the party.
Bora’s transition to Congress comes with a unique distinction—he was allocated a party ticket even before formally becoming a member. This rare occurrence has sparked discussions across political circles, with analysts interpreting it as a sign of Congress’ tactical maneuvering as it gears up for a critical electoral contest.
For Bora, the early ticket allocation has set him apart, with many viewing it as a fortunate start to his new political journey. Expressing his gratitude, Bora acknowledged the unusual nature of his path and his eagerness to contribute to the party’s success.
Addressing the gathering, MP Gaurav Gogoi shed light on the decision, noting that while Bora’s case is unconventional, it is not without precedent. He recalled past scenarios where exceptional political circumstances required similar measures, suggesting that the decision to preemptively grant Bora a ticket underscores the Congress’ adaptability and readiness to make bold moves.
Gogoi expressed confidence in the party’s prospects in the region, emphasizing that the Assam United Front remains steadfast in its political efforts. He also highlighted ongoing discussions and strategic planning within Congress, aimed at consolidating its position in Assam ahead of the by-election.
The ceremony concluded with a call for unity and collaboration within the party ranks, signaling a collective effort to strengthen Congress’ presence and influence in the state. As the by-election approaches, Bora’s induction and early ticket allocation mark a significant step in Congress’ broader strategy to regain ground in Assam’s political landscape.
