Northeast Fiesta 2024 Celebrates Vibrant Cultural Heritage in Jalandhar
Jalandhar: The fifth edition of the Northeast Fiesta brought a vibrant display of Northeast Indian culture to Eastwood Village, attracting nearly 1,000 visitors over a two-day celebration.
The event, held last weekend, showcased traditional performances, cuisine, and crafts from all eight northeastern states, marking a colorful tribute to the region’s rich heritage.
The festival featured a variety of cultural highlights, including traditional dance performances, folk music, and an ethnic fashion show that celebrated the diverse traditions of Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim.
Visitors were also treated to an array of authentic northeastern delicacies, served by local food stalls representing each state.
The event was inaugurated by Major Duzu Kiso of the Army Postal Service and IAS officer Dr. Himanshu Agrawal, who emphasized the district administration’s dedication to fostering cultural exchange and supporting Northeast students in Punjab. Dr. Agrawal highlighted the importance of such events in promoting understanding and unity among diverse communities.
Latiphar Syiem, the Convenor of Northeast Fiesta 2024, expressed gratitude to the numerous partnership associations and student bodies that made the event possible. NESOJ President Himan Debbarma praised the growing engagement from both northeastern and local communities, reflecting a successful cultural exchange.
Organized by the North-East Students’ Organization Jalandhar (NESOJ) and produced by startup community TOTELL, the festival included exhibitions of sustainable handicrafts and interactive sessions. Senior officials from Lovely Professional University and Indian Oil Corporation attended the second day, underscoring the event’s broad appeal.
Throughout the weekend, visitors were immersed in traditional performances from states like Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim, and Tripura, while regional artefacts and handicrafts provided a glimpse into the unique craftsmanship of the Northeast. The success of Northeast Fiesta 2024 marks a significant step in bringing the cultural richness of the region closer to a wider audience in Punjab.
