Sikkim Bypolls: CAP’s Candidate Disqualified in Namchi-Singithang, Boosting SKM’s Chances
Sikkim: In the ongoing bypolls for Sikkim’s Namchi-Singithang constituency, the disqualification of Citizen Action Party’s (CAP) candidate Mahesh Rai has reshaped the electoral landscape, favoring the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM).
Rai’s nomination was invalidated today during the scrutiny process due to discrepancies in his paperwork, including mismatched signatures and issues with his proposer’s documentation.
Officials confirmed the cancellation is scheduled for formal notification by 3 p.m., although word of the decision has already spread through party circles and local media.
The disqualification leaves SKM’s candidate, Satish Chandra Rai, facing a single opponent in the constituency, effectively enhancing SKM’s advantage in the race.
CAP’s Mahesh Rai, addressing the cancellation, expressed his disappointment and indicated plans to appeal the decision: “My candidature has been rejected temporarily, but we will appeal to higher authorities.”
SKM leaders are optimistic about the revised electoral field, confident in their candidate’s position and strong local support. SKM spokesperson Bikash Basnett commented on the positive outlook, stating, “With only one opponent left, SKM is well-positioned to secure Namchi-Singithang. The support for our party’s leadership on the ground is significant, and we are committed to our goal of achieving 32 out of 32 seats.”
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and other SKM senior leaders extended congratulations to Satish Chandra Rai, emphasizing their confidence in his representation of SKM’s values and commitment to the constituency. “The people’s enthusiasm for SKM’s vision is clear, and we are proud to have Satish Chandra Rai carry forward our agenda for Namchi,” Basnett added.
