Assam Bypolls: Nomination Papers of 24 Candidates Validated, Scrutiny for Samaguri to Continue
Guwahati: Officials have confirmed that nomination papers of 24 candidates across four Assam assembly constituencies, set for bypolls next month, have been validated.
However, the scrutiny of nomination papers for 14 candidates in Samaguri remains pending due to document discrepancies involving two independent candidates. Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel stated that these issues will be addressed on Tuesday.
Bypolls for Dholai (SC), Sidli (ST), Bongaigaon, Behali, and Samaguri constituencies were necessitated as representatives from these seats secured Lok Sabha positions.
Voting is scheduled for November 13, with counting on November 23, and candidates have until October 30 to withdraw nominations.
A total of 38 nominations were filed by the last submission date, distributed as follows: Dholai (9), Sidli (3), Bongaigaon (8), Behali (4), and Samaguri (14).
