Manipur Police Arrest Eight Members of Banned Outfit, Seize Weapons in Thoubal District
Thoubal, Manipur — In a major crackdown, Manipur Police arrested eight members of the banned United Liberation Front of Manipur (Pambei) on Monday in Thoubal district, officials said in a statement on Tuesday.
The arrests, part of an ongoing effort to curb insurgency in the region, revealed the suspects’ involvement in threatening residents and disrupting a land demarcation process in Thoubal.
During the operation, authorities seized a cache of arms and ammunition, including three AK-47 rifles, two AK-56 rifles, an M-16 rifle, a 9mm pistol, and hundreds of live rounds.
In addition to the weapons, sixteen mobile phones and an SUV were confiscated from the detainees, underscoring the group’s extensive resources.
In a separate incident, a hand grenade was discovered at the entrance of GP Women’s College, just under 100 meters from the Raj Bhavan, causing panic among locals on Monday morning. Police quickly responded, securing the area and safely removing the grenade to prevent any potential threat to public safety.
The dual incidents have heightened security in the region, with authorities reiterating their commitment to maintaining peace and addressing security concerns in Manipur.
