Meghalaya: Laitkor SC Clinches Second Straight Win in OC Blue Shillong Premier League, Edges Sawmer SC 2-0

Shillong— Laitkor SC marked a significant milestone in their OC Blue Shillong Premier League 2024 journey with a solid 2-0 victory over Sawmer SC at the packed SSA Stadium in Polo.

This win, their second consecutive, elevates Laitkor SC to provisional third place in the league standings during what has been an impressive debut SPL season.

Both teams began the match with aggressive intent, creating early scoring opportunities. However, it was Laitkor who seized control in the 32nd minute.

A handball by a Sawmer defender in the penalty area awarded Laitkor a spot-kick. Risuk Malngiang stepped up to take it, and while his initial attempt was stopped by Sawmer’s goalkeeper Pyrshangbanbha Dkhar, Malngiang pounced on the rebound to net the opening goal.

Laitkor maintained their momentum into the second half, nearly doubling their lead with a header off a corner that hit the upright, followed by a blocked rebound attempt. The hour mark saw Wadskhem Marbaniang come close to scoring, intercepting the ball in the Sawmer box but narrowly missing his shot.

The game was ultimately sealed in stoppage time when Fridison Wanniang capitalized on a chaotic scramble in the box, firing in Laitkor’s second goal with a powerful shot, securing the 2-0 victory.

With six points, Laitkor now shares the top of the standings with Shillong Lajong FC and Mawlai SC, who lead on goal difference and hold a game in hand. Later today, Langsning FC will go up against Nangkiew Irat in what promises to be an exciting matchup at 5:30 pm.
