Assam: 2 Killed In Massive Head-On Collision in Guwahati’s Khanapara

Guwahati, Assam – In a tragic incident that took place in Diwali celebrations in Guwahati’s Khanapara on Thursday night as two Scorpio vehicles collided head-on, resulting in the deaths of two youths and injuries to several others.

The crash, which took place near the Khanapara footbridge, left both vehicles severely damaged and even caused structural harm to the bridge.

The collision reportedly occurred when a Scorpio vehicle with the registration AS 01 EG 0820 attempted a U-turn, causing an oncoming Scorpio from the Khanapara side to lose control and crash.

Witnesses stated that one of the vehicles veered onto the footbridge, breaking through its railing before landing back onto the road.

The accident claimed the lives of a young man, identified as Deepit Dey, and a young woman, Konamika Narjaree, on the spot.

Another young woman, Neha Basumatary, along with the driver of the vehicle with license plate AS 01 EG 0820, were critically injured and transported to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for emergency treatment.

The aftermath of the accident presented a grim scene, with debris from the wreckage and the remains of the deceased scattered across the road.

The incident has underscored the importance of road safety measures, especially during festive times when roads are typically busier.
