Assam: One Dead, 11 Houses Destroyed in Diwali Fire on Laxmipriya Road in Sivasagar

Sivasagar, Assam– Tragedy struck during Diwali celebrations in Sivasagar as a fierce fire swept through a residential area on Laxmipriya Road, leaving one person dead and destroying 11 rented houses.

The incident occurred near the Sadar police station in ward 7, where Shyam Rai, the victim, was caught in the blaze. Despite being rushed to a hospital, he succumbed to severe burn injuries.

The fire, which broke out amidst Diwali festivities, intensified due to multiple gas cylinder explosions, quickly spreading through the densely populated area. Most of the affected properties were rented by food vendors and artisans, adding to the devastation as homes and livelihoods were lost.

Emergency response teams from the Assam State Fire Brigade and ONGC Fire Brigade worked in tandem, eventually containing the flames. Local authorities have since launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, as residents face significant property losses following the incident.
