BSF Foils Smuggling Attempt of Food Items to Bangladesh in Meghalaya
Shillong, Meghalaya – Border Security Force (BSF) troops in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district intercepted a vehicle carrying food items intended for smuggling into Bangladesh on October 31, marking another success in their ongoing anti-smuggling operations.
Acting on a tip-off, personnel from the 193rd Battalion of the BSF halted the vehicle, bearing registration number ML05L3654, at Barmanbari T-junction close to the international border. The intercepted items were reportedly en route for illegal cross-border transport to Bangladesh.
This recent bust comes shortly after an October 25 seizure, where BSF officers uncovered 12 cartons of Skin Shine ointment worth Rs 12 lakh hidden in a dense jungle near the border. The cosmetics, believed to be intended for smuggling into Bangladesh, were also confiscated in the East Khasi Hills area.
The intercepted goods have been handed over to customs officials at Pynursla for further investigation and action. The BSF has reiterated its commitment to cracking down on illegal cross-border activities in the northeast, with operations designed to curb the smuggling of various goods into neighboring Bangladesh.
