Train Services in Assam’s Lumding-Badarpur Section Halted Due to Wagon Derailment in Tunnel

Guwahati, Assam – Rail services through the critical Lumding-Badarpur hill section in Assam remain paralyzed after a loaded wagon from a goods train derailed inside tunnel number 2 near Mupa, affecting transit between Assam’s Barak Valley and Tripura. The derailment, which occurred around 4 PM on Thursday, has resulted in the cancellation of 10 trains, with an additional four partially cancelled, causing significant disruption for both passengers and freight.

The affected wagon was carrying grains when it derailed at KM 52/5, causing the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) to halt all movement through this vital corridor. NFR officials have reported extensive damage inside the tunnel, further complicating repair efforts.

Emergency response teams and senior railway officials have been deployed to oversee the ongoing restoration work, with NFR engineers working around the clock to remove the derailed wagon and clear the tracks. While officials anticipate that train operations could begin resuming later today, they have not committed to a specific timeline for full restoration.

The disruption has left numerous passengers stranded, and freight movement to and from Tripura has been severely impacted, affecting supplies and logistical operations in the region. Local authorities and railway officials are coordinating closely to expedite the recovery process and minimize delays for passengers and goods reliant on this essential rail link.
