BSP Candidate Files Complaint Against Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma for Allegedly Disturbing Communal Harmony

National: In Jharkhand’s Palamu district, BSP candidate Kushwaha Shivpujan Mehta, contesting the upcoming assembly elections from the Hussainabad seat, has filed a legal complaint against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The complaint, lodged before the chief judicial magistrate’s court, accuses Sarma of allegedly making statements that could disturb communal harmony in the region, according to Mehta’s advocate, Sanjay Kumar Akela. The case is scheduled for a hearing on November 16.

The controversy stems from remarks made by Sarma during an election rally in Hussainabad on October 23.

Addressing supporters, Sarma, who is also the BJP’s co-incharge for Jharkhand elections, promised that if the BJP were to gain power, Hussainabad—a sub-division in Palamu—would be elevated to district status and named after Lord Ram or Krishna. Sarma’s appeal sought support for BJP candidate Kamlesh Kumar Singh from the constituency.

In his complaint, Mehta claims that Sarma’s comments were aimed at stirring communal tensions in the area, potentially affecting the region’s social harmony ahead of the assembly polls. Hussainabad will head to the polls on November 13, with election-related activities intensifying across the constituency.

The legal move highlights the heightened scrutiny of campaign rhetoric as election season unfolds in Jharkhand, with candidates and parties vying for influence in a closely watched political landscape.
